Your Own Cloud: Oracle Cloud Machine by Sten Vesterli

Oracle has always been quick to point out that they are the only ones who can offer an entire stack from hardware over platform to applications. So far, they have only leveraged that strength in public cloud offerings, where you can buy as many levels of Cloud from Oracle as you want (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

But with the recent announcement of the Oracle Cloud Machine, you can now get your own Oracle hardware inside your data center, alleviating a big concern in many highly regulated industries. You get the same experience (same user interface, same deployment options, same management by Oracle, same price) as in the public cloud – the only difference is that the physical hardware is placed in your data center. And of course, you don’t get the elastic scaling you get in the public cloud – after all, get a machine of a finite capacity.
